Harbor – Healthcare Messaging Platform
An event-driven platform using Spring Boot and Apache Kafka for exchanging HL7 FHIR messages between healthcare services.
Harbor is the plumbing behind an imaginary hospital. Separate systems for patients, devices, and vital signs share messages, so a heart rate reading can turn into an alert without anyone copying data by hand. It runs on made-up data only.
Key ideas
- Four services for patients, devices, observations, and notifications
- Services share events over Kafka, shaped like HL7 FHIR
- Abnormal heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, or oxygen creates an alert
- Idempotent consumers with retries and dead-letter topics
- JWT roles and an audit log
- Docker, Kubernetes manifests, and GitHub Actions CI
